What's Rick Ousley up to now?
To be honest with you, I don't know. I only met him once and that was extremely brief. I don't really move in those circles and his camp isn't my camp. (Speaking of Brookhills Baptist Church.) Do they still even use the name Baptist?
However, if the Google searches that bring people to my blog are any indication, lost of people still care about Rick Ousley and want to know how's he doing.
I think Ousley got a bum deal from The Birmingham News and religion writer Greg Garrison. They were happy to expose the fact that Rick Ousley had an affair with Donna Jones of Katy, Texas. But when Donna Jones was exposed for making post under false names accusing at Ousley of other affairs, the Birmingham News went silent.
That doesn't excuse what he did. But shouldn't the whole story be told?
Edited 7/20/11 to add: There is a video interview with Rick Ousley located at CBS 42.
Also, an open letter to Rick Ousley is located here: http://thefullcourt.blogspot.com/2011/07/rick-ousley-what-are-you-up-to-now-if.html
Regardless of what he did, his messages were always powerful and I do miss him. He married my husband and I and did my mother's funeral. I'd love to know where he is now.
ReplyDeleteHe has started Grace Point Church, meets at Harley Davidson Warehouse off I65. Tuesday nights 7;00. Some great teaching.
DeleteNot sure where he is now, but I think he's still in Alabama somewhere.
ReplyDeleteHe sure got a bum deal from The Birmingham News.
Thanks. I repost it on my Facebook.

Rick was my youth pastor at Oak Ridge Baptist, he and my family were close. My parents spent a lot of time with Rick and his first wife, Deb. I don't know Donna, but I do know Rick was involved with a girl in the youth group, and that led to his divorce from Deb. Rick was blessed and cursed. He was blessed with a tremendous ability to speak, his creativity were all God given. But he also had a problem with self control and temptation. He touched a lot of lives, too bad his legacy will be that of sin and shame. His children, daughters from Deb, and other children, and grandchildren, deserved better consideration.

ReplyDeleteHe touched a lot of lives, too bad his legacy will be that of sin and shame.
I don't think that's his legacy.
Romans 3:23
ReplyDeleteFor there is no distinction, For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God!
Rick is lay pastor for The Gathering Place United Methodist Church in Moody.
ReplyDeleteRick Ousley is a man of God. He baptized me almost 11 years ago and will always be my hero. His sin was very upsetting but in the Bible all sins are equal. I talked to him the other day and he is doing great. Still chasing the Lord with all of his heart. Although it took me almost 5 years to forgive him, God forgives me so I forgive him. I love Rick Ousley and he will always be a friend of mine.
ReplyDeleteWe miss you, my friend and my brother in Christ.
ReplyDeleteWe miss and love you Rick. God bless you and yours.
ReplyDeleteRick can be found at several places.
ReplyDeleteHe can be heard on Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm at the HOG meeting room next to the Heart of Dixie Harley Shop. As of October 18th these services officially became GracePoint Church. I invite you come and hear him speak as a man only delivering messages from God and hear Marc Phillips and his band lead worship. You will truly be touched by what you see and hear.
@Anonymous 11/01/11 4:50 p.m.
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough I have heard Marc Phillips, but it was about a million years ago in a bar.
Have you kept up with Marc Phillips life since you saw him in a bar "about a million years ago". I think you need to ask around. I am sure Marc or anyone that knows Marc will be more than happy to talk with you. It is an awesome testimony I think you need to hear.

Delete- Yes, someone told me he got saved. He produced a cd for someone I knew, that's been about ten years ago if I am remembering correctly.
Sin is sin in God's eyes, but Jesus warned those teaching that they would be held to a higher standard and judged accordingly. Rick has lived a life of deceit, preaching one message, but living the exact life he preached against. That was the exact message Jesus taught against when he said in Matthew 23 that people should listen to what the Pharisees said, but "do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach." "Everything they do is done for men to see..." Jesus goes on to say "woe....." six times placing a big emphasis on their teaching but no full filling a Godly life.
ReplyDeleteYeah funny how that works. My wife and I were being counseled by him and by another pastor here in B'ham. Things just didn't work out for us but I know now that both pastors counseled us on marriage while they were having an affair themselves.
Deleteif you are wondering if rick ousley is truly doing the work of our Savior, all i can say is come tuesday night to the HOG meeting room at 7pm and you will see for yourself that God doesnt give up us. i attened a couple of his services at brookhills years ago and had a disturbing peace when i left & never went back. months later it came out about his life. but i can say the man i hear on tuesday nights are not the same one i heard back then. i invite you to come see for yourself. this church is for sinners to be healed & not judged.
ReplyDeleteOk, my apologies. I've been out of pocket due to my new teaching job and not kept up with the blog as I should. Some of the comments have been removed because they seemed to all be written by the same person using different names.
ReplyDeleteI don't expect anyone to agree with me, or Rick Ousley, but DJ from Katy Texas should not expect to be able to use this blog to vent her spleen against Ousley.
Rick Ousley and HOG also have facebook profiles now. You can look them up there.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Rick, but I know God's forgiveness, and that we are to emulate that; judgement is in His hands.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to one thing Rick is doing now:
http://www.myfoxal.com/story/16903319/tornado-survivors-receive-large-gift
I found Rick a lair, self serving as he went about doing good in the name of 'brother' this and 'brother'that. Week after week--month after month we listened to his lies to help us after the tornado.......what a mess ,. a disgrace he displayed in helping us. DOUBLE PAY????? His multi-income should be investigated by the IRS. Friend ,NO---a foe. A loose goose worth praying for. GOD have mercy on our souls.
DeleteI knew Rick. I believe in him. God is a God of restoration.
ReplyDeleteI wish there was some way I could get in touch with Rick. After listening to him on a radio show this morning, March 23, 12, I feel that the Lord wants me to talk to Rick and tell him my story because I've been through a lot in my life. But through it all, I have no doubt that Jesus Christ has always been by my side.
ReplyDeleteI shutter to think about the damages of his sins to others. If he preached Gods word and you embrace it, you should realize that you should hold yourself to a higher standard. God doesnt care how well he speaks, his demons are not being conquer by God because he places his ego above God. HOG church? Middle aged men with self esteem issues that Crash and die almost weekly in bham. They do not care If they make victims out of others by running into them. What about their families? Sounds like a perfect place. What happen to common sense and following Jesus ' example?
ReplyDeleteWhat you should shutter at, is your lack of understanding what you speak about. You obviously have some private scars you have yet to deal with and want to take it out on someone~
DeleteGod is good ALL the time and He is good to allow us to breathe another minute so we can tell others of His grace while we are receiving that same grace that we don't deserve. It matters not Rick Ousley if people like or love you, it only matters if you like and love people especially those with 2x4's in their eye. I see and know of the good God is doing through you. Saul killed Christians, Paul loved them as his received forgiveness and grace. How much more in the same way you have been forgiven of your sin and restored to love people and share Gods grace. Love you brother
ReplyDeleteI was visiting a church on this past Sunday and Rick Ousley was the itinerant preacher. He gave an awesome word and he was very transparent about his past. This was my first time hearing him preach and I was blessed by that message. I know God forgives and qualifies those who we would consider unqualified. I would embolden him to continue to study and preach so lives can be transformed.
ReplyDeleteGrace people... Grace. Good grief.
ReplyDelete"They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, 'All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!'" -John 8:7 (NLT)
Those are the words of Jesus himself. That is the savior I follow. I'm not sure about anyone else, but that is my God. A God of Grace.
