Clinton High’s former choir teacher today was charged with eight counts of felony gratification of lust for alleged sexual crimes against boys that occurred in the 1980s.

John Langworthy, 49, of 309 Hunter’s Ridge Drive was taken into custody at his home at about 11 a.m., said Clinton Police Det. Josh Frazier. He is charged by Clinton police stemming from alleged acts with two boys between ages 10-13 in Clinton between 1980-1984, Frazier said.

Southern Baptist Church Morrison Heights fights to keep their knowledge of child molester of boys hidden from the court

John Langworthy confessed in front of his entire church that he molested boys, although he called it "sexual indiscretions with younger males."

Now his church and it's pastor (Pastor Greg Belser) and elders (attorney Philip Gunn, alos an elder at Morrison Heights) are fighting to keep anything Langworthy told them under wraps. Because that's how Southern Baptists roll. Cover up for the child molesters and let the victims suffer.

Thank you Morrison Heights. You knew the guy was a child molester since AT LEAST way back in May of 2010. You allowed him to keep working there until just recently when the heat from bloggers got too hot for you and he resigned without telling the congregation WHY. Then you made up some lie about stress and emotional pressure. (Pastor Belser gave him a going away party and I believe there was a huge severance pay out.)

Then the heat from the blogosphere became even hotter because of the church trying to cover up for the guy and Langworthy went before the congregation to confess "sexual indiscretions" with younger males. (Code for the homosexual molestation of children??)

And NOW, NOW, you want to act like you never said those things and NOW the church wants to cover it up?

The crime was bad enough, but it's the cover up that's going to sink you.

Gaston Oaks Baptist Church in Dallas is a remnant church of the historic Gaston Avenue Baptist Church. I came out of retirement to be the permanent part-time pastor at Gaston Oaks and am grateful I did.

Vicki Turner is my bright, vivacious and hard-working assistant. She is a strong woman, and she is African-American. She has been on the Gaston staff for almost 25 years.
Vicki and I shared our experience of both recently viewing the film “The Help.” We laughed again over the story line and the vivid characters it portrayed. She shared with me that her mother had been a “domestic” in Dallas while Vicki was a child.

As our conversation drew to a close, I did something I had never done before. I apologized to Vicki. “Vicki, I am profoundly sorry for what my people did to your people so long ago,” I told her. “Also, I am so glad I have lived to see a world of change among the attitudes of white people.”
Vicki confessed she has not seen as much change as I have, and that is not surprising given our different perspectives. She added, “When I first started to work in the Gaston church office some people were a little dubious about a black staff member.” Then she said “that was OK, because they soon learned what a great person I am.”
Her words were punctuated by her wonderful laugh. “We better learn to love each other before we all get to heaven,” she said, still laughing.

Accusations of child sex abuse lodged against a former Clinton High choir director (and Morrison Heights Baptist minister of music) are now being investigated by the office of Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith.

On Thursday, the man met at the Clinton Police Department with Byington, Hinds County assistant district attorneys Jamie McBride and Shaunte Washington, and investigators from both departments.

The Clarion-Ledger does not identify victims of sexual abuse. McBride and Washington assist in prosecutions involving victims of sexual crimes.

“These are very serious allegations,” McBride said. The victim has told police that he was molested as a boy of 10 or 12.

We never spoke about this much at Prestonwood, and that was a big problem., Many of us were damaged by not being able to go through the healing process together. For myself, I have completely abandoned the Baptist church as an adult because of many of the things that happened at PBC. These situations (JL and Billy Weber and more) were damaging to me personally and spirituality, and I hope more blogs like this can help people where our churches will not.

It is sad that the PBC cared more for their image in the community than for the victims in their body. If you ask yourself, "Is this what the bride of Christ would do?" you get your answer. I commend the older Pastor for your wisdom, and I wish there had been more wisdom at PBC at the time.

I heard a good sermon by S.M. Davis tonight. It was about being an over comer and not feeling defeated.

But sometimes I wonder why in IFB world people think it's enough just to say "stop" doing something. Instead of just telling people to stop, which is good, why not teach them how they are always going to be at war with the flesh?

I think people are disappointed with themselves and God when they stumble and fall if they are not taught about the war with the flesh. But the IFB puts so much focus on outward conformity that I think people sometimes get lulled into thinking they are victorious when they conform outwardly instead of inwardly.

I realize that was sort of disjointed, my apologies.

But it was a good sermon. :-)

Southern Baptist deacon stopped from taking church from congregation by judge

God’s Hope Builders Inc. must return the property and assets of Mt. Zion Baptist Church to church members.
Newton County Superior Court Judge Samuel Ozburn issued an order Wednesday in the case that pitted the pastor and more than 30 members of the church against the church’s sole deacon, his daughter and God’s Hope Builders.

The lawsuit was prompted when Clayton “Skeet” Dial and his daughter, Angela Ballard, conveyed in August all Mt. Zion’s property and assets to a nonprofit organization, God’s Hope Builders Inc., in Conyers. Dial served as the church’s only deacon and Ballard served in various functions at Mt. Zion, including church clerk and treasurer.

A schism between Dial and Ballard and the pastor became heated during a congregational meeting held last July when Dial accused several congregants, including the pastor, of not being true members of the church. The members and Pastor Chris Allen learned of the conveyance only after arriving to church as usual one day in August and found no trespassing signs on the property and the doors locked.

The church members then sued Dial, Ballard and God’s Hope Builders Inc., alleging the transaction was illegal. A three-day bench trial was held in May.

In his order, Ozburn answered two primary questions raised in the case: Was the transfer of the church property and assets “in the usual and regular course” of the church’s activities and did the members of the church approve the transfer of the property. To both, the judge answered, “No.”

“The unconditional transfer of all assets of the church for no consideration did not further any … activities or purposes for the existence of the church,” Ozburn wrote. “The reasons stated by defendant Clayton Dial for the transfer clearly show that this transfer was not in the ‘usual and regular course of the activities’ of the church.”

In his testimony in May, Dial, who has been a member of Mt. Zion for more than 50 years, said he gave away the historic church, property and assets in an effort to preserve its Southern Baptist heritage. Dial said he feared Pastor Allen was taking overt steps to move the church toward an Independent Baptist doctrine; so giving the church away would assure that did not happen.

Edenton Children Minister Charged In Internet Sex Crimes Case, Congregation In Shock

An Edenton children minister has been charged with internet sex crimes involving children.

Jonathan Rose was arrested Monday by the S.B.I. and the North Carolina Internet Crimes against Children Task Force.

Cumberland County deputies say the 35-year-old Rose engaged in illegal conversations with children via his computer.

Deputies say they had been looking for him for a couple of weeks, and on Monday went to his Dakota Trail home in Edenton and found out he was taking children from his church to a camp in Black Mountain, which is in the western part of the state. Rose was arrested as he stepped off the bus at the Ridgecrest Boys Camp.

Cumberland County deputies say Rose is a minister at Rocky Hock Baptist Church in Edenton. (More here:

Dear Mr. Rick Ousley,

You don't know me and we only met once, which wasn't really even a proper meeting. You were eating lunch with a group of fellow pastors planning the launch of Riverside Baptist Church. I was sitting nearby and overheard your conversation. You might remember that I approached your table in tears imploring your group of pastors to please re-think promoting rock music in your churches.

Your group's pleasure at being asked if you were all pastors quickly faded when your heard my plea, and it of course fell on deaf ears. If memory serves, that was about 12 years ago.

I still feel the same way about the tragic decline of sacred music in Southern Baptist Churches, but for the purposes of this blog post, that's neither here nor there. I only mention the event so that if you read this, you might have a frame of reference for who I am.

I know that we'd differ on a lot of things. I'm an unabashed independent Baptist, a fundamentalist and yes I believe that the King James Bible is the only one you or anyone else ought to be using. (Get a KJV Bible here, for free!)

But I'm writing this post to somehow try and get a message to you that people still care about you. Besides Ray Boltz, the majority of hits on this website come from searches asking about you. They want to know what you're doing now. They want to know how you are. They wonder if you are preaching anywhere.

And the searches come from all over the US. Mostly from the Southeast, but plenty from out West as well. There was one from Maryland a few days ago.

I don't know where you are in life, but I wanted to tell you this, that people still care about you. And tell you that there is a balm in Gilead.

The general manager of Briarwood Presbyterian Church's radio station faces charges of lewd and lascivious behavior after Florida authorities said he propositioned a teen girl and another woman in Seagrove Beach Wednesday, all while he was naked from the waist down.

James Ashley Hulgan, 40, of Leeds, exposed himself to a 15-year-old girl and a 23-year-old woman, said Walton County sheriff's officials.

According to the arrest report, Hulgan was driving on County Road 30A about 12:30 p.m. when he called the females to his van and asked them if they knew where there was a nude beach. The victims, according to the report, saw his genitals. Sheriff's officials said he told the woman and the girl to get in the van with him. They did not.

Sheriff's deputies caught up with Hulgan about 2:15 p.m. at a nearby apartment. They asked him if he knew why they were there. "He stated he was driving around and decided to go to a nude beach," according to the sheriff's report. "He stated he loved being naked and had been to a nude beach before and loved it."

The report further said: "The defendant stated while he was in his vehicle he took his clothes off because he loved being naked. He stated he pulled up to a couple of girls and asked them where the nude beach was because he didn't know where it was."

Jail records show Hulgan is charged with one count of lewd and lascivious behavior, a second-degree felony, and one count of indecent exposure, a first-degree misdemeanor.

On jail records, Hulgan lists his occupation as manager of WLJR, which is located at Briarwood Presbyterian Church.

Hulgan also is president of Best View productions, a video company that has shot footage of high school sports and cheerleading, local pageants and competitive cheer and dance competitions throughout the Jefferson and Shelby county areas, according to his website. Hulgan's website also said he is the manager of Briarwood Church Video Ministry.

Efforts to reach Hulgan for comment were unsuccessful. Briarwood officials did not immediately return a call for comment.

Hulgan was released this morning from the Walton County Jail.

Judge ponders verdict in Mt. Zion Baptist Church case

COVINGTON — Closing arguments have been filed in the case involving members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church who accuse a fellow member of improperly giving away the church’s property and assets.

In August, Clayton “Skeet” Dial and his daughter, Angela Ballard, conveyed all Mt. Zion’s property and assets to a nonprofit organization, God’s Hope Builders Inc., in Conyers. Dial served as the church’s only deacon and Ballard served in various functions at Mt. Zion, including as church clerk.

The congregation of Mt. Zion, including its pastor, learned of the conveyance only after arriving to church as usual one day to find no trespassing signs on the property and the doors locked. The church members then sued Dial, Ballard and God’s Hope Builders Inc., alleging the transaction was illegal.
After three days of testimony in May, Newton County Superior Court Judge Samuel Ozburn permitted attorneys in the case to
submit their closing arguments in writing by June 10.

Defendants’ position
Robert Stansfield, the attorney representing the defendants, laid out in his closing arguments the reasons why Dial was legally permitted to give away the church’s assets. He further argued that most of the plaintiffs in the case — members of Mt. Zion, including Pastor Chris Allen and his family — are not, in fact, members, and, therefore, have no standing to bring the action against Dial and Ballard.

One of the claims made by Dial during testimony was that he feared Pastor Allen was attempting to move the historically Southern Baptist church toward an independent Baptist doctrine.

Stansfield stated Allen took several steps in this direction, such as recruiting only independent preachers for stewardship events and a revival; promoting a summer camp sponsored by an independent church; making no efforts to communicate with the Stone Mountain Baptist Association or Larry Cheek, its associational missionary; and failing to participate in any mission activities of the Georgia Baptist Convention or Stone Mountain Baptist Association.
Because of these actions, Stansfield stated, “the transfer of property was in the usual and regular course of the (church’s) activities.”

Indeed, the conveyance was made to Clarence Hall, principal in God’s Hope Builders, not as the ultimate act of control by Dial and Ballard, as the plaintiffs argue, but instead was made to ensure the Mt. Zion property be maintained as a Southern Baptist institution, Stansfield argued.

“The transfer was made to a trustee, God’s Hope Builders Inc. to ensure that the property was to be used by and for a Southern Baptist congregation consistent with (Mt. Zion’s) articles and the bylaws,” Stansfield stated.
Furthermore, Stansfield argued, many of the “members” in the church are not members at all, having been improperly admitted to the church by Allen.

Stansfield delineated several examples to show that Pastor Allen failed to properly admit new members to the church, and acted instead in contradiction to the church’s bylaws. For example, Stansfield asserts that no specially called meetings were held to admit new members. Indeed, Stansfield argues that this violation extends to Allen and his family, who were also not properly admitted as members of the church despite his being hired in March 2010 as pastor of Mt. Zion.

Stansfield also claims that Allen failed to ask for votes for membership on several occasions when people presented themselves for membership, negating the claims of many plaintiffs that they are indeed members of the church.
Stansfield said these actions were not merely oversights by Allen, but rather were calculated to take the church away from its Southern Baptist roots.

The attorney wrote that two witnesses associated with the Stone Mountain Baptist Association testified, “the strategy in insuring that a weak Southern Baptist church is transformed into (an) independent church is to add enough members who are of the independent Baptist tradition or enough new members who are not connected to the Southern Baptist tradition is to outvote the old members.”

Plaintiffs’ side
Michael Waldrop, who represents Mount Zion Baptist Church of Oxford, Georgia Inc., argued in his closing arguments brief that the claim by Dial that he gave away the church property and assets to protect its Southern Baptist tradition is a “red herring.”

Waldrop stated that Dial testified that he never heard the pastor say his plan was to take the church independent, and in fact, it was Dial who authored a letter in 2009 to the Stone Mountain Baptist Association stating that Mt. Zion was withdrawing from the association.

Even if Dial were concerned about the direction Pastor Allen was taking the church, Waldrop continued, he never asked Allen to become more involved with the Stone Mountain Baptist Association.

Dial also never raised a concern about the way new members were admitted to the church under Allen’s leadership nor did he ever voice an objection to an applicant becoming a member. Furthermore, Dial did not object to these new members’ participation in church meetings reserved for members.

“Any of those actions might have been reasonable,” Waldrop stated. “Defendant Dial acted far outside the usual and regular course of the church’s activities when the only course of action that he considered was to give away all the church’s assets.”
Waldrop countered Stansfield’s interpretation of Mt. Zion’s bylaws governing new members. Waldrop argued in his brief that “specially called business meetings” can be called by the chairman of the deacons or the pastor with no advance notice, including during a regular church service. Votes on membership are to be taken during regular church services.
Waldrop concluded that when Allen presented new applicants for membership at the end of worship services, that action satisfied both provisions.

“Defendant Dial cannot now, when it is convenient and strategically advantageous to do so, claim that the plaintiffs are not members of the church,” Waldrop stated.

With regard to the conveyance of the property to God’s Hope Builders, Waldrop challenges Dial’s assertion that he was protecting the church’s Southern Baptist heritage.

“Both Defendant Dial and Clarence Hall of Defendant GHB admitted that … Dial and Ballard gave all the church’s assets to Defendant GHB with no strings attached,” Waldrop wrote. “Defendant Dial admitted that he did not know any of the directors of Defendant GHB, and he did not even know of Defendant GHB until a few weeks before he transferred all of the church’s assets.”

Waldrop concluded his closing arguments by stating that the conveyance of the church’s land, buildings, contents and approximately $50,000 in the bank, “totally bankrupted” the church and “completely and totally disenfranchised each member of the church.”

“Likewise, the corporate church itself was not protected by Defendant Dial’s actions, but instead was divested of over half a million dollars in assets for which it received absolutely nothing in return,” Waldrop said.

What's Rick Ousley up to now?

To be honest with you, I don't know. I only met him once and that was extremely brief. I don't really move in those circles and his camp isn't my camp. (Speaking of Brookhills Baptist Church.) Do they still even use the name Baptist?

However, if the Google searches that bring people to my blog are any indication, lost of people still care about Rick Ousley and want to know how's he doing.

I think Ousley got a bum deal from The Birmingham News and religion writer Greg Garrison. They were happy to expose the fact that Rick Ousley had an affair with Donna Jones of Katy, Texas. But when Donna Jones was exposed for making post under false names accusing at Ousley of other affairs, the Birmingham News went silent.

That doesn't excuse what he did. But shouldn't the whole story be told?

Baptist pastors react to 20/20, Elizabeth Vargas story calling them cults

Local Baptist pastors took strong issue with a recent 20/20 broadcast claiming sexual abuse is widespread among the independent Baptist church movement and that their churches are cults.

Last Friday 20/20 aired a show hosted by Elizabeth Vargas described as, "exploring whether IFB churches foster an atmosphere leading to sexual abuse of children and women." The premise of the broadcast indicated that Independent Fundamental Baptist churches as a whole promote the covering up of sexual abuse including statutory rape.

The show centered around a woman, Tina Anderson, who says when she was 16 she was forced to confess the "sin" of being pregnant out of wedlock but was not allowed to say the father, who had raped her, was an adult member of the church.

Anderson claimed the church covered up the incident, discouraged her from going to police, and relocated her to Denver to cover up the crime. She went on to say she was ostracized while the man who was twice her age was allowed to serve in the church as a respected member.

Her pastor at the time, Chuck Phelps, released a statement to 20/20 producer, Alan Goldberg, in July, 2010 stating said that when he became aware of the incident he reported it to the Concord Police Department and New Hampshire Division of Children, Youth and Families.

Phelps also stated Anderson appeared before the church simply to inform members of the pregnancy and that the church responded "kindly, seeking to provide for their ongoing needs." He said at no time did the church ostracize or discipline her.

Independent Baptist churches do not have a denominational hierarchy. The churches are self- governing with the pastor as head. While the pastor is in charge of the spiritual direction of the church, the congregations have the ultimate power to hire and fire their pastors at will by a simple vote.

Vargas stated during the broadcast that she considered Independent Fundamental Baptist churches to be a cult.

The Gazette contacted local independent Baptist pastors regarding the allegations that their churches promote a culture of sexual abuse and are a cult. They strongly denied 20/20's implication that all IFB churches including their own, foster a culture of abuse.

Pastor Greg Baker said years ago his church had an incident involving a teenage boy and another child. Once he became aware of it he contacted the parents and told them their son and all of them were going to talk to the police. Matt Walters, pastor of Faith Bible Baptist Church, said they have a similar policy. "We have made it very plain if there is ever an incident we will call the police immediately, even if it is in the middle of a service."

20/20 featured video clips from Dr. Jack Schaap, pastor of First Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana. The college operated by the school has strong standards regarding sexual immorality. Students are not permitted to date without being chaperoned and members of the opposite sex are not permitted alone in cars, to hold hands, or be involved in any other touching. The segment did not explain how policies such as these contribute to a culture of sexual abuse.

Other allegations are that IFB churches teach absolute loyalty to the pastor under all circumstances. This led to Vargas calling the entire movement a cult.

Baptist historian, Dr. William Grady, stated this is an absolute falsehood and mischaracterization of independent fundamental Baptists. "Certainly people are taught to respect the office of pastor. The scriptures state we are to "obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves." However, that does not mean blind obedience."

Grady went on to say that a historic Baptist position is what is known as soul liberty. He explains that that means "every one of us shall give account of himself to God." Grady quoted historian John Locke who stated that, "The Baptists were the first and only propounders of absolute liberty."

"In an IFB church, the bible is the final authority and all members are encouraged to read it." Grady then went on to say that, " Anytime a pastor teaches anything contrary to that Book the people have an obligation to disobey."

The Greeley pastors both concurred with that statement. Baker said, "I always tell my congregation to question everything I say with the bible and to check it out for themselves." Walters echoed similar sentiments, "People here know they are free at anytime to come to me and ask me what is the scriptural basis for anything I say. We encourage that."

Both also deny that women are considered to be second class citizens who are not allowed to speak. Walters said the church conducted a business meeting last Sunday evening where they voted on the budget for the year and church officers. "Every member is encouraged to ask questions, including the women, and everyone has a vote." Baker stated his church has a similar policy.

Baker said while he does not deny crimes such as those mentioned in the 20/20 broadcast exist he challenges its prevalence. "It is foolish to blame the movement rather than the individual responsible for the crime." He went on to say, "I have several members in my church who were abused by leaders in several other denominations. However, I would never think of blaming the entire denomination for the actions of a few."

Walters disputed the suggestion their churches are a cult, "we have never insisted our people blindly follow us but rather encourage them to read the scriptures and think for themselves."

I have read some of the comments on here and have also read my sister's entry. The assumption that I was so traumatized by my time at HH, that I would agree with what she said is a lie. I love my sister dearly, but she does not speak for me.

Many posts mentioned the 3 sisters who went to HH. I am the oldest of those 3 and I thank God for the time that I was there. God used that time in my life to bring me to Himself and gave me time to grow. I truly love the Williams family and am grateful for their ministry in my life.

It is obvious that one of my sisters does not feel the same way. Because love covers a multitude of sins, I will not expound on the differences between our 2 lives. I pray for the day that she would truly come to Christ and make Him the Lord of her life. However, I do not wish to be silent and let it be assumed that I have the same opinions as she.

Thank you to all those who have posted on here in support of HH and the wonderful work they are doing on behalf of those who desperately need a ministry like theirs!!

this site makes it out to be an abusive jail or asylum or something like that. funny thing is the people making most of the comments have never even been there! they have no idea wat they r talking about! if it wasnt for HH i wud be in jail today(and yes a REAL jail) or i wud be dead there are just no other options.

HH and Dr. Williams have helped me soo much in life and i will forever be thankful! we had great times! we had parties and movie nights we had outside activities and went out to eat..we had fun in the school and during work duties! HH taught us to live to enjoy each moment even if it wasnt our favorite thing.

Yes we were all mad to be there at first..and trust me i was one of the loud rebels but as time went on i realized these people trully loved and cared for me! they treated each girl with love and respect and like she was of a high value. they loved us and still do and jus to let the girls out there no that they still pray for there past students by name. even though u guys smear their name in the mud and try to destroy them they love you and pray for u and NEVER say anything bad about u...j

Terry Clyde Helms, 32, Lineville, AL, was among four men who pleaded not guilty to indecent exposure, a misdemeanor, with the stipulation that the Gadsden Police Department will present evidence at a jury trial and Gadsden City Judge Tom King would find them guilty in Thursday's court proceedings. Helms was a youth minister at a church in Lineville at the time of his arrest and since has resigned.

Methodist pastor & school administrator arrested & charged in sodomite park sting

Alton Ed Rogers, a Gadsden minister who was one of the men arrested during a recent police sting operation at Gadsden's Moragne Park and other park properties, pleaded guilty to a public lewdness charge, the Gadsden Times reports.

After his arrest, the 59-year-old Rogers resigned as an administrator at the Marshall Christian Academy in Albertville, according to the Gadsden Times report. Rogers and all of the men arrested were ordered to stay out of Gadsden's parks. http://www.marshallchristianacademy.com/index.php

A Christian couple morally opposed to homosexuality today lost a High Court battle over the right to become foster carers.

Eunice and Owen Johns, aged 62 and 65, from Oakwood, Derby, went to court after a social worker expressed concerns when they said they could not tell a child a 'homosexual lifestyle' was acceptable.

The Pentecostal Christian couple had applied to Derby City Council to be respite carers but withdrew their application believing it was 'doomed to failure' because of the social worker's attitude to their religious beliefs.

The couple deny that they are homophobic and said they would love any child they were given. However, what they were 'not willing to do was to tell a small child that the practice of homosexuality was a good thing'.

Another Southern Baptist Pastor charged with child rape

KOMO news is reporting that Dirk Johnson, a Southern Baptist Convention pastor with First Baptist Church in Port Orchard, WA has confessed to raping a 12 year old girl in 2003. She was a student at Manchester Christian Academy in Manchester, Wash. where Dirk Jackson was her teacher. The girl reports that she told her family when it was happening, but they did nothing.

The rape victim, now 21, recently visited a church where Dirk Jackson is now the assistant pastor, First Baptist Church of Port Orchard, and was alarmed to see her rapist had access to children. She then reported the crime to law enforcement officials. (This church is not affiliated with the school and at the present time, there are no allegations that anything untoward took place at this church. Jackson is currently serving as the pastor of discipleship and evangelism for the First Baptist Church)

In spite of the taped confession, Dirk Jackson still has his supporters. Jackson's father, Donn Jackson said, ""This is not a pattern," said Donn Jackson. "His life has absolutely been a contribution to our community. He won't go nowhere. We'll see to that."

The pastor of First Baptist in Port Orchard, Jamie Greening, has this to say.

""We're just shocked, surprised, confused," said Pastor Jamie Greening, who works alongside Jackson. "This does not match. These allegations do not match the man we've known for eight years."

"As I look back over the many years that I have had the privilege to know Mrs. R [Patti Williams], I find myself wondering did I remember to thank her enough for all she has done for me. Mrs. R [Patti Williams], I need to thank you for all the times you were willing to listen to my many woes and sorrows. For all the support and the much godly wisdom you so lovingly gave to me in my times of need. The many times you celebrated my joys and successes in my life. You understood my problems and helped me accept my defeats by teaching me by your loving godly example of forgiveness. You taught me the value of hard work to trust completely in God's judgment and will. You taught me courage and integrity.

I wonder if I thanked you enough for all the sacrifices you have made to let me have the most Godly teachings of love and forgiveness. It has been said that “a picture is worth a thousand words,” and I have no doubt that more people have been influenced to believe in evolution by artwork than by words. From its inception, Darwinian evolution has been popularized by art.

HAECKEL’S EMBRYO CHART

It was Ernest Haeckel, Charles Darwin’s most enthusiastic disciple in Germany, who devised the iconic embryo chart “proving” that at the embryonic stage man looks almost exactly like various types of animals.

He based this on his “law of recapitulation” (also called the biogenetic law) which stated that the human embryo goes through an evolutionary cycle during which it resembles a single-celled marine organism, then a worm, then a fish with gill slits, then a monkey with a tail, and finally a human. According to recapitulation, each creature repeats or recapitulates the entire alleged evolutionary history. Thus, the human embryo progresses from a single cell to a fish to an amphibian to a reptile to a mammal to an ape to a human.

The problem is that it is a grand scientific fraud, and it has been known by scientists to be a fraud since the 19th century!

Haeckel mislabeled embryos; he changed the size of embryos; he deleted parts; he added parts; he changed parts.
Haeckel also brazenly ignored every facet of embryology that directly disproved his theory.

The newly revealed letter, obtained by Irish broadcasters RTE and provided to The Associated Press, documents the Vatican's rejection of a 1996 Irish church initiative to begin helping police identify pedophile priests following Ireland's first wave of publicly disclosed lawsuits.

Mrs. Patti Williams funeral today

As I watched Mrs. Williams funeral today, or home going ceremony, as some of her children said, I was struck by several different things and thought I might jot them down:

One, what a big family the Williams are blessed with! Someone left a comment about that and left the verse Psalms 127:3. "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." How true.

Also, how important writing letters of encouragement was to Mrs. Williams. Two different speakers read from letters that Mrs. Williams had written them, two other speakers talked about the letters they had received from Patti over the years and her children and grandchildren also mentioned receiving letters. They spoke of the godly advice and portions of Scripture Patti's letters always contained.

A chuckle spread through the crowd when Mrs. Kagin read from a very old letter she had received from Mrs. Williams years ago. It said in part:

"Dear Dawn, how I love you in Christ. Be patient and wait and grow in the lord. Perhaps the Lord will bless you with a godly man. Rest in the Lord and trust him, enjoy the position you have at the moment."

If there had been one of those swivel cameras it would have focused in on Mr. Kagin and he would have been blushing! If memory serves, Mrs. Kagin remarked that she was married the very next year.

Before Mrs. Kagin began to read the letter from Mrs. Williams that she had kept all those long years, she spoke through tears of the "helpless 16 year old runaway" that she had been when she first met Mrs. Williams, and how Mrs. Williams had taken her under her wing, and loved her and cared for her, and how it meant so much. Mrs. Kagin also spoke of Patti's honest and strong rebukes as part of the care she received.

She recalled how Patti was outspoken about many things, but most of all Jesus and remarked that Patti knew her only goodness was her faith in Jesus Christ. (I think she was referring to the passage of Scripture "in my flesh dwelleth no good thing.")

I was also moved and personally challenged when two of her sons spoke about how often their mother prayed, with them and for them. Those images in their mind kept one son from committing suicide after a span of rebellion and drunkenness had made his life shipwreck. He said "I put that gun to my head and tried to pull the trigger, but the memory of my mother praying for me came rushing back, and I could not pull the trigger." This same son went on to speak of the forgiveness and restoration he experienced with his family.

A grandson spoke of how Mrs. Williams was a picture of grace to them. He also talked about how she did not dote, but instead guided, and was deeply concerned with what they learned to think of the Lord, and what the Lord would think of them!

Her oldest daughter (now a missionary to Mexico) talked about her mother saying to her, after Aaron died, "I need you to help me now, because you have been through what I am now going through," and how their "hearts were knit together" after this loss.

Lastly in my list, but by no means anything nearing a complete report, I was touched by the testimony of a young woman who was a former student at Hephzibah House. She spoke about how Mrs. Williams had always been there for her through the years and how many years ago, "her sacrificial care" had been so important in the young lady's life. (When she was a student at HH.)

It was a very moving testimony and this former student, while emotional at the loss of this dear lady, was very poised and extremely well spoken. I wondered who she was and took a print screen for later so I could ask a friend of mine if he knew her. I titled it "Girl Mrs. Williams Helped."

Then tonight I checked my facebook messages. Earlier in the day I had sent a link to the live streaming of the home going ceremony to a former Hephzibah House student with whom I am acquainted via email.She's now a pastor's wife, a mother of four. I had not corresponded with her in quite some time, but I knew she would want to view it if possible. She was replying with her thanks, and the news that she had worked all day Monday and driven 12 hours through the night to attend the funeral on Tuesday.

She told me it was a beautiful service and that there were many, many people there. I said "Lucinda, did you by any chance SPEAK at Mrs. Williams funeral???

She told me that she did, and how nervous she was, but what a blessing it was to talk of the love and care and many late night phone calls for prayer she had shared with Mrs. Williams, and how Mrs. Williams was always there for her, and would always pray for her.

Mystery solved. The very poised and well spoken young woman was Lucinda. :-)

Many more people spoke, many beautiful songs were sung, but the hour grows late, so I'll close for now.

winnett County authorities have charged a volunteer Sunday School teacher with child molestation in connection. James Benjamin Harris is accused of molesting the young boy.

Investigators said the boy's family discovered sexually explicit messages on the 14-year-old's cell phone. The messages, investigators said, were from Harris, who was the Sunday School teacher of the victim at Brookwood Baptist Church in Lawrenceville. The family also told investigators Harris had taken their son to a church function in Macon in late December.

Detectives seized Harris' cell phone and computer during their investigation. They have charged him with seven felonies - two counts of child molestation, four counts of child molestation by electronic device and one count of enticing a minor for indecent purposes.

Harris is in custody in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.

Yet another Southern Baptist minister charged with child sex abuse

A church pastor in Greenwood has been accused of touching a 13-year old girl inappropriately.

Norman Henley Keesee, 57, is charged with lewd act upon a child under 16 by Greenwood Police and according to the Greenwood County Detention Center.

Keesee is the minister of music at Emerald Baptist Church according to the GPD incident report.

The report says investigators say they were called to the child’s home on October 25 after she told her parents she “had been violated.”

The officer says the teenage girl told him she was filing some papers for Keesee at the church when he came up behind her and stuck his hand under her shirt and grabbed her breast.

The girl told the officer something similar had occurred before during a piano lesson at her family’s home.

The child said she was embarrassed and didn’t speak of the alleged incident at her home, but told her mother after what she said happened on October 25.

Keesee is being held Thursday at the Greenwood County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Criminal cases for homosexual misconduct in the military which reach military courts of appeals have resulted in publicly reported decisions which illustrate the serious consequences of homosexual misconduct in the military. Although these cases are part of the public record, they are rarely reported on by the media—in contrast to cases of heterosexual assault, such as the infamous “Tailhook” scandal.

These case records show that homosexuality poses a threat to good order, morale, discipline, and unit cohesion in the military even when the conduct in question is consensual.

Sodomy in the next bunnk?

For example, a military court described the case against Navy submariner Benjamin H. Hartman:

The appellant was originally charged with forcible sodomy committed aboard the Naval Submarine Base in Kings Bay, Georgia. In accordance with a pretrial agreement he entered a guilty plea to, and was found guilty of, the lesser offense of consensual sodomy. The appellant was attached to a fast-attack submarine that was in Georgia for some routine work, and he was staying in a room in the base's transient visitors' quarters that another Sailor from his submarine had procured. According to his responses during the plea colloquy, the appellant awoke to find another male Sailor fondling his p---s. The appellant eventually assisted the other Sailor in penetrating the appellant's a--s. This activity all occurred while a third occupant of the room, a petty officer also attached to the submarine, slept in one of the two beds in the room.30

Consensual sex in the barracks leads to violence In the case against Marine Private Paul S. Barrera, a majority of the court ruled that repeated acts of consensual sodomy in the barracks, but behind locked doors, were “private” conduct. Nonetheless, it violated a standing order and the relationship led to violence, which was disruptive to their unit:

On two separate occasions, the appellant and another Marine from his unit, Private First Class (PFC) HernandezDiaz, engaged in consensual a--l sodomy in the latter's first floor barracks room aboard Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa, Japan. . . . Both sodomy incidents occurred either late in the evening or early in the morning, and each time the doors to the room were locked. The room shared a common restroom with another barracks room, and there were approximately 100 other Marines living on that floor. A written standing order prohibited sexual activity of any kind in the barracks.

. . . [T]he appellant admitted that his acts of sodomy were prejudicial to good order and discipline. We agree with that assessment, and note that the danger to unit cohesion and morale posed by such sexual activity between members of the same unit in a military barracks is arguably even more pronounced where the unit is stationed overseas in a foreign country, away from families and friends and in relative isolation. Moreover, the danger to good order and discipline was borne out in this case by the rumors that circulated within the unit, and the tension leading up to the appellant's later offenses of assault and communication of a threat.

Second, the record demonstrates that all sexual activity was specifically prohibited in the barracks, and that fact underscores the harm to good order and discipline posed by the conduct at issue.

One of the other judges detailed how this relationship led to violence:

The record indicates that the appellant confronted Private First Class (PFC) HernandezDiaz and threatened to "burn him" for disclosing their relationship to others. Appellant then apologized to PFC HernandezDiaz, at which point he attempted to kiss him. Out of rage, appellant then slapped and choked PFC HernandezDiaz. . . . The appellant admitted on the record that he physically assaulted PFC HernandezDiaz. The assault directly resulted from the sexual relationship between the appellant and PFC HernandezDiaz. As I stated, he struck PFC HernandezDiaz out of rage for disclosing their relationship to third parties. The Government retains an interest in preventing disruptions within the ranks.31

Exploiting Rank and Using Alcohol and Homosexual Pornography to Manipulate Victim

In some of the reported cases, servicemembers have taken advantage of their relationship with those of lower rank, and also plied their victims with alcohol to make them vulnerable. Such was the case against Marine Sgt. Sean D. Habian:

Lance Corporal (LCpl) L, a 21-year-old radio repairman with less than 2 years experience in the Marine Corps, was sent by his unit to augment Military Police Company as a day-shift clerk at the base pass office. The appellant, a 36-year-old sergeant with over 8 years' experience in the Marine Corps, also worked in the pass office, on the night shift. . . . [T]he appellant . . . asked LCpl L if he would be interested in coming over to the appellant's house to "hang out." LCpl L agreed . . . . LCpl L arrived at the appellant's on-base quarters, and the appellant encouraged him, over LCpl L's initial protest, to drink alcoholic beverages. . . . LCpl L testified that he became extremely intoxicated, and could not recall anything that happened after he sat down on the downstairs sofa around 0300.

When LCpl L awoke, he was in the appellant's upstairs bedroom, and could feel a hand rubbing his a--s and digitally penetrating it. He felt a second hand reaching for his genital area. He still felt intoxicated, but attempted to push his elbow back to stop the person touching him. The touching was repeated, with a hand rubbing his a--s and a finger penetrating it "every once in awhile." He heard the person saying "one more time. One more time." After LCpl L again pushed back with his elbows, the appellant got off the bed, slapped LCpl L on the buttocks and yelled at him to get out of bed and leave the house. LCpl L was groggy, and the appellant slapped him two more times, a few minutes apart, before LCpl finally got up off the bed. Realizing he was naked, LCpl L had a heated conversation with the appellant, asking the latter what had taken place and the location of his clothes. . . .

While discussing the incident [later] with [Special Agent] Ryan, LCpl L vaguely recalled an additional incident in which he woke up during the night and saw gay pornography on the television. He remembered waking up yet again due to a lack of air, with the appellant's groin area in his face and neck area. He could also feel the appellant s---ing on his p---s. LCpl L did not remember having any clothing on at this time, although he had been fully clothed when he sat down on the couch at approximately 0300. As LCpl L attempted to move his head to catch his breath, he opened his eyes and saw the television screen, on which he saw a man performing oral sex on another man. . . . The day before he invited LCpl L to his house, the appellant went to an adult store and purchased a transsexual inflatable doll kit. The doll had both an a--l and oral orifice, but no v-----l orifice. The appellant also purchased a videotape, entitled "Transsexual Streetwalkers," depicting homosexual sexual activity. After the incident, agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service found the doll, inflated, in the appellant's closet. . . . A homosexual video was found in the appellant's VCR, attached to his television set.

. . . He was . . . convicted of fraternization with LCpl L, and with an indecent acts offense for rubbing LCpl L's a--s, fondling LCpl L's p---s and t-------s, and penetrating LCpl L's a--s with his fingers. . . . [T]he appellant argues that the appellant's acts in rubbing LCpl L's private parts and digitally penetrating his a--s were simply "homosexual foreplay" and cannot be found indecent . . . . We disagree. . . . [T]he indecent acts of which the appellant was convicted involved actions . . . as LCpl L was just awakening and trying to shake off an intoxicated stupor. . . . LCpl L's vulnerable condition and the lack of any express consent render the indecent acts of which the appellant was convicted coercive in nature.32

Instructor Uses Alcohol to Identify Victims, Exploit Students

The case against Marine Sgt. Steven G. Carlson also illustrates an individual exploiting his superior rank, socializing with others to find victims, and using alcohol to make victims more vulnerable:

The appellant was stationed at the Marine Corps Detachment, Fort McClellan, Alabama, where he instructed Marines attending military police military occupational specialty training. While in that position, the appellant transported students in his private vehicle, provided them alcohol, consumed alcohol with them, and socialized with them, in violation of Navy Regulations, an installation general order, and a Marine Detachment order. The appellant used these social interactions to determine if a student would be receptive to homosexual activity with him. This determination was made by plying students with alcohol and then discussing topics such as masturbation, p---s size, oral sex, and "playing truth or dare." During truth or dare, the appellant would ask students if they had ever thought of having sodomy with a man or kissing a man, or he would dare them to expose themselves in public or to get naked in private. These interactions came to light when a student reported that the appellant had sodomized him. . . . The appellant was charged with, among other things, multiple indecent assaults of a homosexual nature. . . .

. . . [A]t Fort McClellan, Alabama, the appellant invited Private First Class (PFC) M into the woods where he pulled PFC M's pants and his own pants down and began fondling PFC M's p---s. The appellant then put PFC M's hand on the appellant's p---s and pulled PFC M toward him and kissed him. The appellant asked PFC M to perform oral sodomy on him and when PFC M refused, the appellant performed oral sodomy on PFC M. PFC M testified that the appellant's acts shocked him, he froze, and was scared.33 Do we really need more homosexual linguists?

Advocates for allowing homosexuality in the military argue that we cannot afford to lose the talents and skills of the homosexuals who have been discharged or denied enlistment. In particular, they are fond of citing the cases of homosexual linguists or translators, a skill much in need because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Therefore, it is ironic that one of the most important cases of homosexual assault (which set a precedent for how the Supreme Court’s 2003 Lawrence v. Texas decision legalizing homosexual sodomy does and does not apply to the military) involved Air Force Sgt. Eric P. Marcum—a Persian-Farsi linguist: Appellant, a cryptologic linguist, technical sergeant (E-6), and the supervising noncommissioned officer in a flight of Persian-Farsi speaking intelligence analysts, was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. His duties included training and supervising airmen newly assigned to the Operations Training Flight.

While off-duty Appellant socialized with airmen from his flight at parties. According to the testimony of multiple members of his unit, airmen "often" spent the night at Appellant's off-base home following these parties. The charges in this case resulted from allegations by some of these subordinate airmen that Appellant engaged in consensual and nonconsensual sexual activity with them.

Among other offenses, Appellant was charged with the forcible sodomy of Senior Airman (SrA) Harrison (E-4). . . . With regard to the charged offense, SrA Harrison testified that after a night of drinking with Appellant he stayed at Appellant's apartment and slept on the couch. SrA Harrison further testified that at some point he woke up to find Appellant orally sodomizing him. Although Appellant testified that he "did not perform oral sex on [SrA Harrison] at all," he testified to "kissing [SrA Harrison's] p---s twice." . . . SrA Harrison also testified that Appellant's actions made him scared, angry, and uncomfortable.34

Air Force Major Grooms Child for Sexual Abuse One of the most shocking cases did not involve a servicemember as victim, but a civilian minor. Air Force Major Rickie J. Bellanger was charged with sexually abusing two minor boys—one of whom had begun corresponding with Maj. Bellanger when he was in the fifth grade:

Appellant was deployed to support Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. During that time he answered a letter from JB, a fifth grader who lived in Texas. They continued corresponding. Upon his return from overseas, appellant met JB and his family and attended a school function. A friendship developed which included letters and phone calls as well as visits.

In May 1994, JB visited appellant in Florida for approximately one month. JB was almost 15 years old. One night JB and appellant drank alcohol while watching television. JB testified that he drank 12 Zimas, a malt liquor beverage. JB became intoxicated and threw up. Appellant helped him to bed. Later JB awakened and realized that appellant was orally sodomizing him. Appellant then rubbed his p---s against JB's lips. . . . On May 30, 1995, JB's mother became aware of an incident several years earlier when another individual had forcibly sodomized JB. JB admitted this incident when questioned by his mother. Under further questioning, he also alleged that appellant had sodomized him. The investigation against appellant was reopened. Several months later during the course of this second investigation another youth, EM . . . claimed that appellant made sexual advances towards him. Appellant was subsequently charged with offenses involving these two individuals. . . . In the computer correspondence, appellant admitted to prior acts of sodomy and expressed a desire to commit both oral and a--l sodomy with the individual to whom he was writing. Additionally, the graphical images files contained sexually explicit pictures of what appear to be young boys, some of whom are engaging in oral sodomy. . . . In one instance appellant allegedly rubbed his p---s over JB's lips. In the other instance, he told MR he wanted to "s--k his d--k." . . . Appellant was convicted of violating his commander's order not to have private contact with any person under the age of 18.35

"My Take On Banning HH-

Ladies, I was so glad to have met you all…to have the opportunity to get in touch with other HH girls. But I would like to express my concern with this whole “ban HH” movement.

While I believe some of the things done there was not right, I do not believe we were so badly abused as to warrant shutting them down. There were mistakes made…but parents make mistakes as well.

As far as the spankings/beatings go- that was overboard on the Williams part…if indeed they were as brutal as stated and not just the result of trying to control an out of control teenage girl. The laws on spanking were much different 20-30 years ago than they are now…and while I was a student there no girl was spanked that I know of. I do not believe that they practice spanking anymore.

The work issue- Girl’s I’m sorry, but we were not overworked. Worked yes…but I came from a farm; I did that much work anyway. Work is not abuse, it is healthy. We were not worked constantly…we had breaks, school and scheduled fun times.

The food was healthy. The portions may have been a little big (or too small at other times) but I can definitely see the logic in dishing out portions. And it would be hard to know just how much to dish out for each girl…much easier just to have the same amount for each girl. Especially since teen girls tend to starve themselves in an effort to lose weight…or overeat when there is a favorite food. As far as the “surprise soup”…I don’t remember that…I do remember the bean soup…lol, that made for some rather musical weekends…lol. But having “surprise soup” is not abuse…it is an easy way to use up leftovers, many families do it but that doesn’t mean you are abused just because you have to eat something you don’t really like the taste of.

Pause right here- I do think it was wrong of them to make girls eat worms that were found in the greens…or drinking thrown up ensure. That was just plain wrong. Again, they were overboard…they were reading rebellion into too many things there.

Back to my point-

Timed showers- well, a water heater only holds so much water. Plus the massive amount of time it would take for 15-20 girls to take a longer shower…lol.

As to the BM chart. Come on…we were all girls…it wasn’t that humiliating. I can see the need for it…they were only trying to make sure we were healthy. Constipation can be very dangerous if not treated.

All in all, this is my opinion-

Dr. Williams is a man of God. This attack on him is wrong. It is nothing but a lash out at what we consider to be abuse…when in fact it was an attempt at a rescue of our souls.

I am publicly apologizing to the Williams for my part in this mess. A law suit was never my intention.

I only hope that irreparable damage hasn’t been done."

"On Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, Brother Williams spoke in our adult class Sunday School. His lesson was scriptural, energetic, and interesting.

He arrived the evening before and spent the night at our home. I had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours visiting with him.

You can't know everything about a person by spending a few hours with him. However, my initial impression was that he is a sincere, faithful man who loves the Lord and loves people. I've been fooled before and can be fooled again, but that was how he appeared in our brief visit. It is a blessing to look a person in the eyes when you talk with him, but his words indicate his heart.

Likewise, I have considered the words of the critics of him and Hephzibah House on these forums. I can't look into their eyes; all I can do is read their words posted publicly or sent to me privately. His harsh critics have almost without exception given me the impression that they were bitter, angry, obsessed people who not only hated Brother Williams but that they also despise the fundamental independent Baptist movement he represents. Additional critics on the FFF consist of people who have accepted the testimonies of these critics, along with those of some people who attended Hephzibah House but either do not claim to be saved or fundamental Baptists.

Time will tell. I have no plans to take on Hephzibah House for financial support. I am not sure how I feel about boarding homes as a legitimate local church ministry or mission work. However, I have no bad impressions of Brother Williams. He has enemies, but any work of this type that has gone on for nearly 40 years is certain to have its share of enemies. The apostle Paul had plenty of them, so much so that he had to escape one town by night in a basket over a wall.

I do have bad impressions of most of the FFF critics of Brother Williams. Some appear to be gullible people who are always ready to believe criticisms of any fundamental Baptist preacher. Others appear to be people who are either unsaved or who are turning their back on fundamentalism that emphasizes the King James Bible, standards, discipline, and separation from sin and worldliness.

That's about all I have to say about that ministry until I run into Brother Williams again, but I noted that someone asked for an update, so here it is.

It is heartbreaking to come across these remarks from JF. Regular readers will remember that she spends hours online bashing independent baptist's and what they believe but she's not above going and singing in those churches and taking up what she calls a "love offering" from those same people. She's also the same woman who blamed IFB teachings and standards for the murder of a young pregnant newlywed.

This time, she's taken that hate just a step further and started attacking a woman who was a former student at Hephzibah House. This precious woman has had a lifetime of pain and suffering but she still praises the Lord and serves him as a pastor wife and full time counselor. We'll call her "Lucy."

When Lucy posted at the FFF in support of Dr. Ron Williams, Jeri was one of the first to attack her. When Lucy refused to back down, Jeri recent threw these gems at her:

Brandon Wayne Wilemon, 27, was arrested by the Blount County Sheriff's Office, according to a press release.

On April 27, a grand jury in Blount County handed down a three-count indictment against Wilemon on the following charges:

• Enticement of a child under age 16 for sexual purposes.
• First-degree sexual abuse by forcible compulsion.
• Transmission of obscene material to a child by means of a computer.

"It is an unfortunate fact of our times that we must remain on guard against those who would prey upon the innocence of children," said Attorney General King. "Predators may be skilled at deception, and may try to hide within our churches or other trusted institutions."
If convicted, Wilemon faces up to 10 years in prison and a fines up to $15,000 on the charges of enticement of a child and first-degree sexual abuse. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $30,000 on the charge of transmission of obscene material to a child.

A former Liberty University official is learning how much time he'll spend in jail for stealing a prescription painkiller.

Scott Alan Ray was sentenced Wednesday afternoon to 18 months in prison.

Ray pled guilty in February to four counts of breaking and entering and one count of stealing the prescription drug "Hydrocodone."

Prosecutors say Ray took the drug from a Campbell County home.

Ray was also sentenced to pay approximately $1,700 to the people he stole from.

SPOKANE, Wash. — More than 500 people in the U.S. Northwest filed claims against the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus in advance of a November deadline, alleging members of the Catholic order sexually abused them as children.

The Spokesman-Review in Spokane reports the claims against the Jesuits span decades and range from Native Alaskan children to students at Spokane's Gonzaga Preparatory School.

A federal judge overseeing the bankruptcy reorganization of the province set a Nov. 30 deadline for people to file the claims. The organization includes Jesuits in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska.

The Jesuits already have settled 200 additional sex-abuse claims.

Richland County (WLTX) - A man who worked as a subsitute teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old boy and had porn on a computer.

Samuel Smith, 40, has been charged with criminal solicitation of a minor.

Richland County deputies say on April 29, a teacher at Sandlapper Elementary School found a computer with inappropriate conversations and pornography on it.

Investigators say Smith had substituted in the classroom where the materials were found, and that he had been having improper conversations while online with a 15-year-old boy about sex and alcohol.

Investigators say Smith has been using Craigslist and Yahoo! to run personal ads soliciting relationships and that he had several conversations with the 15-year-old involved in the case.

News19 has learned Smith is a pastor at a church in Northeast Richland County.

A youth pastor was arrested this week, accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl in a Palm Harbor home.

Scott Dewayne Wright, 35, who lives in New Port Richey, turned himself into Pinellas authorities Monday. He was charged with two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Detectives say Wright met the teen in September 2006 when he was a youth pastor at Calvary Chapel in New Port Richey.

The next year, according to authorities, Wright befriended the teen, and at least twice between September and November 2007, he engaged in sexual activity with her.

In 2005, Wright was featured in the St. Petersburg Times in a story about a weekly program for teens at Calvary Chapel.

"We have a youth that is in crisis, and we need to reach out to them before it's too late," said Wright, who headed the program.

Wright later worked for the Crossing Church in Tampa [Willow Creek associated, "seeker friendly" Southern Baptist Convention member] for a period of time, according to the church's Web site. Tuesday evening, a church pastor there said Wright no longer works there.

According to his biography on the Web site, Wright is married with four children. The site, which referred to Wright as "Pastor Scott" said he began working at that church as student director in 2007. It also said that he "has a great drive to take youth on overseas missions trips every year."

I am about a day late with this news, but I thought it interesting that Newt Gingrich has finally joined the Roman Catholic "church" that his mistress (now wife) is a member of.

Regular readers will recall that the late Jerry Falwell invited the adulterer Gingrich to deliver the commencement address in 2007. And while Falwell dropped dead not long after praising Gingrich, the soon to be Catholic, thrice married Gingrich, delivered the 2007 commencement address to the largely Southern Baptist University.

He was no doubt warmly received.......

A widely-known megachurch founded by an architect of the religious right and seen as a national political force selected a grandson of Billy Graham on Sunday as its new leader.

The overwhelming vote by congregants at Coral Ridge Presbyterian inFort Lauderdale to appoint the Rev. Tullian Tchividjian could represent a softening of the message spread by the Rev. D. James Kennedy, who was pastor at the church until his death in September 2007. (snip)

Tchividjian insists he holds the same theological positions of Kennedy, but he cuts a far different image.

His hair is spiky, his beard sometimes scruffy, his skin tan. He offers a classic prodigal son story of youthful forays into drugs and sex, then his return to the fold. He has said he wants people to know what Christians are for as much as what they are against, and has rejected the idea that politics is the most important way to change the country.

"I think that politics is one strategic area of cultural engagement," he said Sunday. "But I also think that the sphere of art and the sphere of education and the sphere of media and technology are also strategic."

Tchividjian, 36, is the middle of seven children born to Stephan Tchividjian and Graham's eldest daughter, Gigi. He attended Coral Ridge — where Graham delivered the dedication ceremony — and its adjacent school as a young man, but at 16 he dropped out, spending the next five years partying on South Beach, seeking the company of women and getting high. An Interview with Tullian Tchividjian

Q.You did your MDiv work at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando. Which happened first—you became Reformed, then went to RTS, or the other way around?

"Soon after God saved me (if indeed I was saved at 21 instead of 5), God gave me an overwhelming hunger and thirst to study, to read, to learn. I wanted to go to college but with only a GED and no SAT scores, I wasn’t sure how I was going to do this. So at first, I simply began reading books that my pastor (we were attending a PCA church at the time) encouraged me to read (this included books by Packer, Sproul, Lloyd-Jones, the Puritans, etc.). I really wrestled with the doctrine of election. But after a long hard struggle with the Bible I came to the realization that I could choose not to believe this doctrine but I could not in good conscience say that the Bible doesn’t teach it. It was clear to me that from cover to cover Scripture highlights God’s sovereignty in salvation. After I was convinced of the Doctrines of Grace, however, I became a real pain in the neck. Every non-Calvinist was an idiot, so I thought, and I made sure to tell them. Thankfully, God quickly tempered my zeal and I came to realize that an arrogant Calvinist is an oxymoron."

Grief or bereavement counseling is big business. The Grief Recovery Institute claims that “hidden grief costs U.S. companies more than $75 billion annually.” Whenever tragedy strikes today, from plane and car crashes to shootings and bombings to wild animal attacks to divorce and untimely deaths, you can be sure that grief counseling is not far behind.

he firefighters who sought for survivors after the Twin Towers fell on 9/11 were given extensive grief counseling. After the shootings at Virginia Tech in April 2007 that killed 32 people a memorial fund was created to provide grief counseling and other aid to the “survivors.” After an ape viciously mauled a woman in February 2009, grief counseling was offered to the doctors and nurses who provided medical care. The logical question is whether all of this grief counseling is proper and effective and how did people get along for thousands of years without it, and the answer is that it is nothing more than psychobabble that can cause more harm than good.

Dr. Tana Dineen, in Manufacturing Victims: What the Psychology Industry Is Doing to People, gives the following warning: “A battalion chief in a large metropolitan fire and rescue agency, writing about the ascendance of the CISD movement in his field, noted a comment made decades earlier by a hook and ladder captain. ‘We used to have steel men and wooden wagons; now we have steel wagons and wooden men.’ He is one of an increasing number of people who are expressing concern that such procedures undermine the natural support and adaptation that keeps those with jobs like firefighting resilient.

Adding support to this concern is the growing scientific literature that finds that the debriefing movement appears to have no appreciable preventive or palliative effect, and may, in fact, be responsible for an iatrogenic effect of causing the problems it claims to treat” (p. 184). “[James] Pennabaker, critical of this simplistic approach [e.g., pop grief counseling] says: ‘Not everyone progresses through stages in grieving or coping. In fact, as many as half of all adults may face torture, divorce, the loss of a loved one, or other catastrophe and not exhibit any major sign of depression or anxiety’” (p. 207).

“Another researcher, George Bonanno, a clinical psychologist at Columbia University, offers his empirical analysis of the so-called grief-work hypothesis: the widely held assumption that venting negative emotions and ‘telling your story’ are necessary for regaining mental health. ... ‘There’s really no evidence that these things are effective--and there’s even some to suggest that they can actually be detrimental,’ says Bonanno” (pp. 207, 208).

First funeral held in South Alabama killings

Michael McLendon, 28, shot and killed 10 people, including five of his family members before committing suicide at a metals plant where he used to work. Six people were gunned down at his uncle's house -- two blocks away from where Jenkins lives.

Sonya Smith, 42, was shot and killed as she walked out of a Big Little Stores gas station in Samson on Tuesday. Mourners remembered her as a loving wife and mother of three who wouldn't hesitate before helping someone in need.

"We're all asking how could a deranged gunman come and bring so much pain, so much grief to our community," Rev. Donnie Earls told the hundreds gathered for Smith's funeral at Shady Grove Assembly of God Church in Coffee Springs.

"Even in times like this -- in horrific times -- only God has the answer," he said.

Mourners in this rural Bible Belt community said burying the people who were taken from them so suddenly and violently was the first step toward moving forward, but it would take time.

Wade Smith said his wife of 16 years was the "backbone of our family," and losing her at the hand of a random killer made the pain even more difficult.

"Why didn't he just take his own life if he wanted to do anything and leave all these other families alone?" Smith said while holding his wife's photo and a red rose following her burial in the church cemetery.

It started raining as he spoke, and Smith said it felt like his wife was "crying down from heaven on everybody and all the families that are going through this."

"I got angry," he said, hugging the framed picture to his chest to keep it dry. "The sadness has turned to anger, so you've got to turn to Jesus. Jesus is the only answer."

"I’m not sure how to apply what I’m wanting to talk about here, but it seems to be a big problem I’ve started to notice. Many ministry kids grow up being told they’re living in a glass bowl, and many times they are. They feel like they have to be perfect all the time. They learn early on to put on a face showing how they’re strong, and spiritual, and how their family has it all together. They never get attached to friends like many other kids do either because they move around, travel from church to church ministering, or because they’re afraid that if anyone finds out the truth about them and their family then the gossip will get around.

Too many times the father and sometimes the mother are so involved in ministry and counseling everyone else in the church that they never realize that they’re children are wearing this mask and hiding what they really are.

When they become disappointed or hurt they have no one to talk to about it so they just hold it all in. They go to church and hear preaching that tells them psychologists are of the world and are anti-christian so if they need to talk to someone, they need to just go to the pastor. They’re told that if they’re feeling depressed they need to minister to others and their depression will go away. They hear over and over not to become bitter against those that have hurt them and just to forgive them but never figure out how to fully forgive someone."

We'll just let Sharon Osborne speak to that, if we may. After all, she's certainly spent her life trying the counselors of the World.

"I've lost count of the number of them that have been in this house,' she says cheerily. 'I've had therapists. Ozzy's had therapists. The kids have had therapists. They've all trooped in and out. I like to think that I've taken something from all of them, but, at the end of the day, how do you know?

'What I do know is that none of them has given me any sense of serenity, and that's what I crave. I like the idea of that acceptance and calm that religion brings.' "

Of course Mrs. Osbourne has that part wrong. It isn't religion, it is Jesus Christ.

"It's a site run for commercial purposes. … This is not the Internet. This is a site created by you in which you invite comments. This is something you control."

Defense attorneys representing four suspects in the January 2007 fatal carjacking of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, asked the judge to either bar media Web sites from allowing online readers to post comments on stories about the case or require news organizations to police the commentary by requiring posters to provide verifiable identifying information.

DENVER (AP) - The Associated Press has learned that James Dobson has resigned as chairman of the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family.
Jim Daly, president and chief executive officer of the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based ministry, said Friday that Dobson will continue to host the organization's flagship radio program and speak out on moral issues.

The departure of the 72-year-old Dobson as board chairman is part of a succession plan. He founded the group in 1977.

Dobson began relinquishing control of the group six years ago by stepping down as president and CEO.

Though I never thought I would be saying this, being a free woman isn't all it's cracked up to be. Is that the rustle of taffeta I hear as the suffragettes turn in their grave? Very possibly.

My mother - a film-maker - was a hippy who kept a pile of dusty books by Germaine Greer and Erica Jong by her bedside. (Like every good feminist, she didn't see why she should do all the cleaning.) She imbued me with the great values of choice, equality and sexual liberation.

As a result, I fought with my older brother and won, and at university I beat the rugby lads at drinking games. I was not to be messed with.

But, at nearly 37, those same values leave me feeling cold. Now, I want love and children, but they are nowhere to be seen.

When I was growing up, I was led to believe by my mother and other women of her generation that women could 'have it all', and, more to the point, that we wanted it all. To that end, I have spent 20 years ruthlessly pursuing my dream of being a successful playwright. I have sacrificed all my womanly duties and laid it all at the altar of a career. And was it worth it? The answer has to be a resounding no.

ROME (AFP) — Attacks on Pope Benedict XVI's decision to lift the excommunication of a Holocaust denier escalated Monday, with one theologian calling on him to step down as the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Criticism following the pope's January 24 announcement has been particularly cutting in Germany, where denying the Holocaust is a crime punishable with a jail sentence.

"If the pope wants to do some good for the Church, he should leave his job," eminent liberal Catholic theologian Hermann Haering told the German daily Tageszeitung.

"Our desire is that our ministry will challenge fathers to turn their hearts to their children, and the children's hearts to their fathers.(Mal.4:6) But lately we have been seeing several parallels between the family in the home and the family of God. Many things we see in the home regarding relationships may be useful in the church family, as well as in our personal relationship with God the Father.

It seemed natural to me, when wondering what is causing believers to doubt their salvation, to examine what sort of diet, care and teaching they had received in the church over the last few decades. (I guess I get this from my interest in nutrition, and from my favorite doctor- Doug Kauffman, of "Know the Cause" television fame.)

First, I asked myself, What do preachers know about babies nowadays? I mean, we have a generation of mothers that don't know what the basic needs of a baby are, so, I am sure that there are men in pulpits that have never cared for, nor trained up a child. Yet, as a minister to God's people, he should know something about the proper care and feeding of infants.

1. Babes need swaddling. As this is comforting to a new babe, so will comforting be beneficial to a new child of God.
2. Babes need to bond with their mama. Newbies need to learn Christ. Feed them the gospel of John. They need to learn the kind voice of their Shepherd.
3. Babes need milk- and they need milk for a while! This means, there's no hurry to wean them. The milk has everything a baby needs to develop a healthy immune system. In this case, a strong defense against the doubts of the devil is the best foundation you can lay in a new babes life.
4. Do not try to hurry the babe's progress. The baby is a blessing. The baby should be appreciated for what he is, not valued for his monetary contributions, or, his ability to serve you and alleviate some of your burden of responsibility.
Rather than saddle new believers with responsibilities, hoping this is the key to growth, let the child grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus. Let him be a glory to God in every state of his growth. Every age of every child should be a unique blessing to the family of God. There should be no pressure to become instantly mature!
